Every other year James plants pumpkins in the spring (we skip a year to allow the soil to recover, alternating with tomatoes). This year the pumpkins came early as we are still in August and James has not even started school. Never the less, its a fun experience for James and the first hint that fall may be just around the corner.
There are several more pumpkins still growing on the vines which expand outward past our little garden area. This is common for pumpkins but it makes a bit of a mess in the back yard as the vines seek out more and more nutrients from the soil.
